The construction of large buildings is a very complex undertaking. The owners need to capture and retain all of the details of the actual construction. Critical details include the exact location of equipment and utilities, electrical circuits, vents, plumbing, walls, studs, ceilings, and other building components. Building owners need to access this information in their ongoing management of the building. This information is also needed when repairs are necessary and remodeling or building additions are planned. Hong Gao and Jeff Nolan formed AGILE HANDOVER AND AUTOMATION SOLUTIONS (AH) to meet the information needs of large building owners. Their business objective consisted of designing and producing a software package that could provide a master record of the critical information related to how the building was constructed.
Hong Gao and Jeffrey Nolan founded AH after establishing themselves as experts in implementing large-scale data management solutions for their clients. They had a strong desire to understand a client’s needs and design a solution for them. They came to Frank Millheim and John Leggette of SCORE to get to know what is involved in getting their unique idea off the ground as a viable business. SCORE mentoring helped Hong and Jeffrey develop a marketing plan for their first year in business. Valuable guidance was also provided in the area of government contracting. SCORE’s guidance and encouragement enabled Hong and Jeffrey to proceed with confidence. It did not take long before a significant contract was obtained to provide facility management support to Howard Hughes Medical Institute in Leesburg, Virginia. This is a large contract in the technical area that Hong and Jeff targeted. AH is also developing partnerships with facility management and support organizations as well as working on acquiring certification to run on US Government Networks.
